To put it simply Yes and No.

Most people know that I have developed out many of my domain names into small and medium sized websites. But like almost all developers I have more names that I have time to develop so I keep a number of them parked. On my parked names I have a standard "This name may be for sale" link that goes to a contact forum.

More offers on parked names

Over this year on the parked names I had many more offers and questions asking if the name was for sale or to list a price. Most people know that parked pages are not real websites and might be for sale. So on the surface it would seem that developing domain names decreases offers.

Quality Offers on Developed Names

Build out the sites into online brands does have benefits, because even though I received less offers to buy my developed out websites the few times that people wanted to buy one of my websites the offers were much more serious and larger. People see the websites and can tell that the owner has put time and work into the site. This makes sense because the buyers are not only buying a domain name, they are buying an existing brand with traffic, search engine rankings, and customers.

The presence of a website no matter the size seems to deter people from making initial offers and inquiries about the name because to a casual buyer the site seems to be in use. When a serious buyer comes around they want the site they will be willing to pay more because of the established brand.

As a way to get more offers on my developed sites I may try to add a top banner that says "This website may be for sale" which leads to a sales page. I will track and see if it takes away from my adsense and other revenue just to make sure it does not negativity effect them.

In Conclusion

If you are looking to sell a name quickly and get the maximum number of offers development might not be the best idea, but if you are looking at adding value to your long term investment develop away.

What have you seen on your parked and established sites with the offers from buyers?

End user sales are what every domainer dreams about. When I began in the domain industry I would pick up names for $10 and then try and pitch them to end users. I would try and sell them from $250 to $750 and I made sale and a little bit of money this way. I then used that profit to buy other domains and develop other names out.

A few months ago I sat down and decided to refocus my attention domaining. I was spending too much time trying to find names to hand register and then emailing potential end users. I still pick up names I just do no actively pitch them to end users anymore. I have two main reasons for this change in actions.

The first it that there is not enough time in the day anymore. If I had a few more hours in the day I might still send out the emails but right now with everything I have going on it is not worth it. I think that right now there are some great buying opportunities and that because I have developed sites that bring in revenue every month I have money to acquire names with. Right now, I do not need to spend my time selling it is better spent developing or buying names.

The second reason is that when you approach an end user most of the time you are going to get a lower price than if they came to you. Like Shane always say be an unmotivated seller. If you do not make it seem like you are looking to sell you can ask for a higher price.

I still am listing my domains for sale with godaddy and other sites, and I am also looking at outsourcing end user emails for some names and I need to see if it will be worth it for me. The truth is that I will still contact and end user once and a while, but it is no longer a main part of my business plan. The lesson I learned here is that like any business the domain industry is always changing. When I started domaining my $500 end user flips were a large part of my business now I try to spend more of my time on development. You have to sit down and see if what your doing with your names is worth the time you are putting into it.

A few weeks ago I sold one of my sites to an end user for a value that required the use of an escrow service. I suggested escrow.com and the buyer agreed.

Everything went very smoothly until escrow.com tried to send the money into my bank account. They claimed they had sent it and when I checked my bank account there was no money in it. I then waited a few days and still the payment had not arrived.

Then I went onto my escrow.com account and looked at my account details. I checked my bank account information to make sure everything was correct and I suddenly realized I had mistyped my bank account number.

Now at this point I was freaking out, because thousands of dollars belonging to me might be in someones account. I then contacted escrow.com support and told them about my mistake. I asked if there was any way to fix the problem.

They quickly responded and had the ACH returned back to them which they said normally takes around 6 days. In the mean time I fixed my bank account information on the site and double checked it. Even then I asked support if they could just send me the payment in check forum because I was too worried about myself messing up my account number again even though I double and triple checked it.

A few days ago I arrived home from track practice and my payment from escrow.com was on the kitchen counter. I just want to thank escrow.com for helping me out of my silly and careless mistake. Its nice to know that the support is so great, but hopefully I do not have to talk to them anytime soon about another mistake. Also this post should serve as a reminder to everyone to double check your payment information to make sure you get the money you deserve.

Hopefully Shane does not mind that I am going to do this again because I had a great response to the post yesterday. (edit) I just saw he did do a list so I'm going to publish this one today but it will be the last unless he plans on staying out late tonight and then I will be happy to do it again. I pick names for their high cost per click and number of searches. Many of them also have potential to be sold to end users. I'm not into brandable or short domains but all of these are .com's. To find them I just search using the CPC and Search values on DropDay.com and then use estibot, a google search, and the google adwards keyword tool to value them. I hope you enjoy

BlackMicrowaves.com Estibot at $6,300 2,300 exact searches and $1.04 CPC I really like Color Product domain names.

BlackDishwashers.com $4.98 CPC (Nice!) 2,000 searches above

NaturalOrangeJuice.com I could see this in a commercial and living in Florida I know this is worth something more than $59

WeddingGiftsIdeas.com Estibot $4,500 9,900 searches and $1.96 cpc would be a great affiliate store. This is something I will not need for some time.

SchoolGraduationGift.com $420 estibot Now this I will need in a few months! hopefully

MoneyMakingSite.com Great name for a blog about making $$$ (so not one about domain parking).

HowtoMakeCashFast.com (edit not a drop but) Well of the top of my head drugs, penny stocks, time machine and a few sweet domains, lotto, and not minisites

StockImageSites.com $8.41 CPC and 475 searches please someone build it out and I'll take one click because I told you too.

SpamSpammers.com Get back at them by sending hundreds of emails about Viagra and lost sums of money.

TrainingtoRunaMarathon.com If you are going to, buy the name and write about it, I am going to do the 26.2 in a few years

FindAWebsiteName.com Would be a nice name for a domain portfolio site

I hope you enjoy the names and maybe even bid on one, just bid against me I'm on a student budget. Do other people see value in these names or is it just me?

He is probably having a to much fun at domainfest so I will cut him some slack. I put together a list last night of a few names that caught my eye.

JuvenileAttorney.com $30,000 Estibot 3,500 exact searches and $8.30 CPC plus a ton of attorneys using lesser names. Hopefully I never need one of these but I'm bidding anyways

OrganicYogurt.com $11,000 Estibot 4,400 Exact Searches $3.57 CPC I could see this one on a TV ad

CarpetCleaningReviews.com $1,100 Estibot 1,073 exact searches $3.23 CPC I really like review names and carpet names.

OutdoorXmasLights.com Great seasonal name I talked about yesterday no bids $3,800 estibot 6.07 cpc and huge search numbers in the fall

FlorenceRome.com Nice Geo $3.58 CPC Great tourist destination

Quick Product Domains all could be nice little sites

WomensHuntingBoots.com
PinkEarring.com
GreenElectricGuitar.com
PokerCardShuffler.com

Let me know what you think of my list, I know there is no way I am as good as Shane but I think there are some good deals in here. I find the domains using Drop Day and then decide on what I think about them based on their CPC, Searches per month, and end user or development potential.

This past week I received two emails about a domain name I recently moved to why park and listed for sale. It has began to rank on google and gain traffic. I have received a few end user enquiries in the past, but not two in a few days time.

The first email was a simple "I would like to use this domain as my business name and I can offer you $60" I responded to it and gave my counter price with my justification for it and did not hear back.

Then the next day I got an email claiming "I would like to use this domain name as a prank for my co workers birthday and because you are not using it would you sell it to us."

I thought it was just the same person trying to get the name cheaper, and I replied with the same price, but added that if they did not want to pay the full price they could rent the names for a few days.

They replied that the price was too high, but they would be intrested in renting the domain name. It turns out that the person really wanted to use the name as a prank for a co worker and they are going to rent the name out for a few days. The name does not make a huge amount at whypark and I am not going to charge very much to rent it out for a few days. If I can rent the name out for a few days and pay for its renewal fee I will be happy.

My point of this funny and strange story is that although I thought the end user email was a trick, it turned out to be truthful. Some people have said they often don't respond to lowball and bad end user email, but I respond to all of them because you never know what could happen.

The other day in school I was thinking about all of the random knowledge inside of my brain because I have built so many websites. Researching and writing hundreds of articles has left me with so many fun, random facts I feel like I would be a great contestant on a game show. My English teachers over the years have also said that my writing has even improved a little bit.

It could also be useful in my future job search, how great would it sound to say I actually have a website I run exactly about this industry or job.

So even if your ministes only earn $0.03 a month don't worry, you are smarter now because you built them!

Some people are not fans of minisites and I don't blame them. They are not for everyone. If you just set a minisite up and leave it expecting huge monthly income you are going to be disappointed, but if you continue to build content and links to the point where the minisite really is not so mini anymore over time they bring in nice monthly income.

Last year, I really learned a ton about building sites. I had my best year ever but, I let a few sites go to long without updates and lost some search rankings. Now, I have done better link building and added new content and the names are almost back to where they were but my monthly income took a hit for a few months.

Outsourcing has helped me use my time more efficiently. Now I can spend time doing only a little SEO work and most of it finding names to develop.

So this is a message to all minisite owners, update them, continue to build links! I love my minsites and I am trying to find time to build some more out for myself soon. I am also thinking about writing a short little guide on how I do it if anyone would be interested.

As another week ends and a new one begins I wanted to share a few random thoughts and things that went on this week.

On Thursaday I had dinner with the great guys at Bido Jarred and Sahar and the rest of the guys in blue. (The blue bido shirts) David Castello was also at dinner and we had a great time talking. I learned so much in just one night. I want to thank them again for sharing part of their vast knowledge with me.

While we are talking about Bido, I wanted to point out some larger sales they have been reporting. They are really moving the platform to the next level and with the new voting system everyone can make money. I will be talking more about this in another post but for now lets just say I really like the new system and changes at Bido!

Last night at 10:58 PM I sold another domain via Godaddy Premium Listings, if you follow me on twitter, this is my 4th name sold via Godaddy this year. A few days ago I just got my first check from Godaddy in the mail from the sale of the first name. I am really happy about this sales platform the only thing I don't like is the 30% commissions.

On a personal note I ran a half marathon two weeks ago in 1:21 which I was very happy with. All of the 60 mile weeks have paid off but now its back to track season. Last Friday at our meet I broke the 5 min mile which is always fun, now I am just trying to break 10 min in the 2 mile race.

We will be announcing another South Florida Domainer meeting very soon if you would like to get on the email list please leave a comment or contact me.

Finally a big thanks to my all of my sponsors for supporting me on this blog they rock! I do have a few ad spots open if you would like one take a look my prices are some of the best in the industry.

If I can do anything for you or if there is something you want me to write about please contact me Brian (at) Teendomainer.com

Thanks and enjoy your weekend!

When selling a domain to an enduser if the domain is undeveloped or even parked, to the enduser it appears like you are just selling a domain.

If you have taken just a little bit of time and put up a quick minisite, wordpress blog, or even just a news aggregator the end user now is under the assumption that he is buying a website from you.

How will this enable you to sell your domain for more?

First there will be traffic and search engine rankings that increase the price of the domain

If you are earning any money at all the enduser is in a way buying a small part of your business from you and to many endusers this will justify a higher cost that they would have paid for a blank domain.

I am in talks about a domain name right now with a company about buying a domain and they do not call it a domain. They said "We would like to buy your website from you." The site is just a quick little minisite I put together, but it is going to make the sale larger that it would be if it was just for the domain. I might not even be in talks right now if I had not put up the minisite but that is another blog post.

Some quick ways to put up a minisite

I love wordpress and RSS fed news sites work great in many cases
Bruce Marler is launching ezdevelop.com soon

I hope this information helps you get more money for your domains!
