I have seen some really great names lately and picked up a few. It seems that people are even looking at these list a little because most of the names get bids or are picked up off the drop, but there are a few that no ones likes once and a while which is ok.

For the question of the day to ponder I ask the old question is it better to have 1 site that makes 100 dollars or 100 sites that make 1. (Personally I would like 10 sites that make $10 if I had to choose)

By the time you read this my best friend an I will on the Florida Trail hiking and backpacking for 5 days. We are headed to the Swanee River near the boarder of Florida and Georgia.

You may not believe it but the low for that area for today is around 20 degrees F which 14mph winds. Tuesday it does not get much better with lows around 25. Its going to be a ton of fun huddled in a tent trying to stay warm. A few days ago we went and purchases all of our nonperishable meals consisting of all meats and carbs, no fruits or vegetables whatsoever.

The trail follows the river the whole way and in total we should do over 70 miles in 5 days. Camping will give me some time away from my screen and I am going to use it as a way to refocus for 2011. I began to really rock it in the later months of 2010 and I think I can improve even more. I am going to set some goals for 2011 that I will try my best to meet.

Also because I own many camping related domain I can almost view this as a business trip to test new products, take pictures, and get ideas.

Talk to you in the new year!

Everywhere I look I seem to be surrounded by domain names. It might just be that I notice them more often than others, but I just can not get away from them.

This weekend was a perfect example of my inability to escape domain names. I was running a cross country race in Titusville, Florida with over 1,000 runners and hundreds of teams competing. There were races all day Friday and Saturday. The race is put on by Nike and Fl Runners.

All along the 3.1 or 5 Km course there were signs with Nike.com on them or Flrunners.com on them. Interesting story about FLrunners.com is that their real website is fl.milesplit.com but they use the .com without the sub-domain in ads and as their name which is a great move on their part.

In my race, the Invitational Race I finished 14th out of over 250 runners and ran a 16:43 with which I was very excited. During the race I really was not thinking about domains, but afterwards realized they were all over the place including on medal I received for coming in the top 15.

Domains are unlike any other investment we have today. They are one of a kind "assets" that the world can not function without. All companies big and small can use them to grow their business to millions of customers online.

Enjoy your weekend and the minisite series will finish up this week from looking at traffic stats I can tell it has been a reader favorite!

Some of you might remember my post about letters I sent out to end users a few weeks ago about buying domain names. The real letters worked quite well I am just finishing up on my long case study about real letters vs emails and phone calls but so far of the 12 or so letters I sent out I sold 3 domains and am waiting for payment on one more. I am quite happy with the results and will share all of the results in a later post.

One email that I got the other day I was selling a .com domain that was generic and fit this business perfectly. They were using the .net of the domain and I would think logically they would want the .com and I offered it for a very fair price.

They emailed me back saying they had owned the .com and let it expire because they liked using the .net more.

As a domainer this makes no sense to me why would one choose a less popular extension over a .com. People know the .com why would you not want one. Even if they just redirected the traffic to the .net it would be worth it.

But it is just another example of an end user not getting domain names and their value. It was not the first time and will not be the last that comments by an end user will baffle me.

Have you had any funny end user comments?

Packages and letters to be sent out to endusers

Selling domains to domainers is futile it is not worth it to sell domains at reseller prices when there are endusers out there. You may turn a reg fee domain into a quick $50 and if that is all you want keep at it. But, if you would like to turn your $10 investment into $xxx and possibly more, you have to target endusers.

Until someone told me about selling to endusers a long time ago, I had no clue how to go about it. But now I am emailing, calling, mailing, and even faxing* endusers weekly. Just last night I put together about 20 letters and two larger packages that I mailed today to endusers. The larger packages are for the more expansive names, sent with signature confirmation to make sure they get to the right person. Both pictures were picture of what I sent out today. I mail early in the week so they get it Tuesday or Wednesday and have the rest of the week to contact me. If they do not within a weeks time I will call them to ask if they got my letter.

With my budget and names I have had the most success selling names for mid $xxx. I am currently selling localized geo names like CityProfession.com's and I think that the endusers realize the value of the names once I explain it and they feel comfortable paying a few hundred dollars for them.

In the letters I send I try and explain the SEO value and the type in value of the names and how it is kind of like advertising but you only pay once and not per click. This works really well if you know the are using PPC or not.

My most important tip is be reasonable with your prices, put yourself in their shoes how much would you pay for the name if you were them.

Their are tons of unregistered names that are just waiting to be sold to endusers, start looking today and please ask me any questions at all about contacting endusers.

Updated** Elliot Silver over at Elliot's blog just wrote a great article about selling domain to other domainers. He mentions the time and refusal rate of contacting endusers and I see his point and they are very true. It does take time to sell domains to endusers, but it also takes time to sell to other investors just not normally as much. You are not going to sell every one of your names to an enduser not even half, but if you work hard you can sell some domains for more than you could to a reseller. Looking back at some of the big names in the industry and some of the larger sales of the past few years many of the sales are to endusers. In conclusion, I would suggest doing a bit of both, try and sell some domains to endusers, try and flip some to investors. I was just trying to inspire some people to try contacting endusers.

*The Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991, 47 U.S.C. § 227, makes it a violation of federal law for a person to send an unsolicited fax. If you want to fax someone get their permission first.

This time of the year is super busy for all of us, and my holiday season has been no exception. Exams are about to start in school and I need to starting devoting more time to studying. But here is some stuff that I am working on right now.

EndUser Sales

I just sent out a few real letters and around 10 emails. From the 10 emails I have had 3 responses and I am in the negotiation process with all names. The letters should have arrived so I should hear from them early next week. I think it is not the best time to be selling domains because people are so busy with other stuff, but I will keep at it.

Working on Some new Sites

I have picked up some great camping / rock climbing related exact match product domains and I am working on getting sites up on them. I just finished up the first one Portable Camping Shower What do you think?

This Domain is for Sale Links

Awhile ago I did a post about on my domains at parked.com I added the this domain is for sale link and I think it is a really good idea this week I had 2 offers on domains that were a little low but still they are offers that would not have come in if I did not put the link up.

Big Thanks

To everyone who attended the South Florida Domainers Meeting we had over 50 people attend and I met some great people. Thanks again it was fun.

Have a nice weekend!

End user sales are where some of the big money is in the domain industry, but last night at the meetup I talked to a few domainers who were not contacting end users or were frustrated because their previous attempts were unsuccessful. So I wanted to share a little that I have learned.

I know that one of the preferred methods of contacting an enduser seems to be just to send of a quick email to a few potential buyers. I have done this many time and sold a few names this way, but I think that their are some other methods of contacting endusers that will work just as well or better.

Pick up the phone! Call up the prospects and ask to speak to the person in charge of the website / marketing department or I try and talk to the owner of the business.

Snail Mail? What that? Sending letters can be a great way to get a response. In the letters I have sent out I believe that people view it as more official and formal. Some people view emails as spam or unsafe so if they know you are taking the time to send them a letter they will trust you. I will have more on this method later I just sent out a nice batch of letters and I will report the results later.

I have also faxed people and even send a Twitter DM before, all you have to do is be creative and keep trying new methods until you find one that works. Would you like to hear more about this I would love to wrote some more post on this topic? Morgan Linton has done some great post over at Domainvestors.tv about endusers that are worth a read.

About 96.5 million Americans plan to shop online Monday, up from 85 million in 2008, according to the National Retail Federation. Cyber Monday has become a huge day for online retailers around the globe. Brick and Mortar stores have been forced to adapt and follow their customers online.

The great advantage about shopping online is that you can shop at millions of different stores without having to drive around the country. This also makes it harder for retailers to stand out on cyber monday. Not only do they have to compete with the store down the street they have to compete with stores around the world.

What can make a store stand out?

Great deals can and so can a great domain. Domains add authority and draw people into your sites. You think that ToysRUs is is glad that they bought toys.com right now?

I think a trend we are going to see it people turning to search engines on cyber monday and online shopping in general to find the best price. Exact Match Product domains are great for this because of their weight in SEO which allows them to rank higher.

Domainer Cyber Monday Deal Godaddy is running a great deal today $5 .com's with code FRIDEAL

One of my developed websites ranks very well for its terms in google. Second to be exact for about a dozen searches behind retailmenot.com, its a coupon code site. Recently I was just looking at google seeing what sites are below me and I saw a site that was new to me.

They had the same domain that I did, (I have the .com) but in the .org extension. It is not a horrible thing that the site is now trying to rank for my terms but it is one that could have easily been prevented.

I looked at my developed sites not all of my domains, but the larger ones and I registered the .net and .orgs if they are avilable. You might want to grab the .info, relevant cctld, or .tv if the name fits it.

Owning the other extensions of a domain does a few helpful things

1. It eliminates potential competition

2. You then control the brand

3. You can sell the domains together to an enduser or domainer for more because you control all of the major extensions

Owning the alternative domain extensions is a smart move to make even for smaller minisites just to eliminate the competition and names that others could buy instead of the .com. Owning all names might even lead to more sales we will have to see, but now if someone wants that keyword domain they have to buy it from you or turn to a unknown extension.

I was just about to write a new post for today when I took a look at my wordpress dashboard. This is my 100th post, it really does not seem like I have been writing for that long. I mean their are some domainers who have been doing this back when I was only 5 years old.

I just want to say thanks to my readers for reading what I write and I also want to thank the domain community as a whole for being quite accepting and welcoming to me. As a young teen in an adult dominated industry it was very humbling to write and get to talk to and meet many domainers. A special thanks to the few domainers and bloggers who I have met and talk to on a regular basis you guys are amazing and thanks for all of the help you don't know how much I appreciate it. I would love to pass some kind deeds on especially to and other teendomainers. I am always around if anyone has a question or wants to chat about domains. Just contact me using the link above.

So thanks again everyone I hope we can keep blog going great!
