I have been watching the Rocky Mountain Domain conference from its beginning and I was very interested in the show. Like most shows I could not get out of school to see them, but I know Mike Law had some great speakers and events lined up. The conference was ultra affordable and the people that I have talked to who attended said that had an amazing time. Hopefully, there will be another show I can attend next year. Here is an update sent to me from Rick Waters.

The Rocky Mountain Domain Conference, a regional domain name conference was held on Saturday, February 26th ( www.Rmdc.co). The RMDC was packed with timely information on everything  from Google's recent algorithm changes, to the new Gltd domain name extensions ( such as .Music, .Green and .XXX which are definitely going to happen and are a potentially a game changer in the domain name space ( they will expand inventory and devalue the .com over time imho  - RW).

The attendees were treated to fine Western hospitality by Mike Law and his staff. The event was held at a gorgeous Victorian mansion ( actually the home of the Russian Consolate of Denver ). This unique setting gave this regional domain conference a special character and the warmth of the building put attendees and speakers at ease.

Name.com's Bill Mushkin started the event by giving an entertaining keynote entitled 'Facebook's Daughter' on the history of the concept of 'naming' and why domainers need to be aware of other digital naming conventions such as those of Twitter, Facebook, Apps etc.

Rick Waters of Webcast1.com followed and began with a commentary as to why .com value's may be dropping while other domain extension's values such as .CO are rising ( website audience leakage to Facebook, Twitter, Apps etc., the increase in acceptance of newer extensions such as .TV, .Co and the looming release of additional gtlds onto the market which would increase inventory and poor recent auction results ). Rick followed with a presentation entitled the '7 Steps of Premium Domain Development' in which he outlined the essential steps that owner's of one and two word 'premium' domains should take in developing a world class website. He used www.Brookline.com as an example. (  PPT is attached ).

Braden Pollack spoke on vertically integrated domain channels such as his DUI network, and touched briefly on why .co isn't getting indexed in Google yet. Mimi Rupp of Kenyon and Kenyon law firm gave some insightful tips on UDRP proofing ( protecting oneself from UDRP actions ).  Annalisa Roger of the Dot Green registry gave us an update on the .Green Gtld application and discussed why domainers should be very cognizant of the emergence of new gtlds. Adam Torkildson provided useful SEO tips such as improving SERP results by treating each domain as a brand.

Domain Holding's CEO Jason Bashof ended the event on a high note with a rousing talk on why development is the only way to ensure the increase in the value of a domain infusing what large players such as Demand Media and Internet Brands are up to. He also gave us an update on their Rapid Site Builder system.

Several of the attendees were treated to skiing and snowboarding Sunday on fresh powder at the world renowned Copper Mountain resort outside Denver.

All in all the 35 or so attendees were treated to timely, informative and entertaining conference in a terrific setting. This is by far the best regional domain conference. Mike Law did a fine job in putting RMDC together and we look forward to attending again next year.

It sounds like a ton of fun and I would like to thank Rick Waters for sending me the update. I'm sure we will hear more about the event in the next few days. I would like to congratulate Mike for putting on a great show!
