Will the Godaddy .Co Super Bowl Ad Do Anything?

Of course any ad at the Super Bowl is going to drive traffic and some sales for any product even if it .co domain names, but I do not believe this will be a game changer for .co sales.

When most people watch the ad they will remember that there was another Godaddy ad with a hot girl on it. Maybe some people will even see and remember that she was a .co girl whatever .co is.   I think that very few people will head to godaddy and quickly register a new .co domain name for their business.

Most people watching the super bowl are not thinking about building a new website or registering a new domain name.

I do think that a few weeks after when someone who watched the ad goes to godaddy and tries to register a .com domain name that ends up being not available they might give .co a little more consideration.

But for now .com is king and there are so many better know alternatives to .co like .net. I personally do not see the .com as .co's biggest competitor it is .net because both domain extensions are below the .com and compete for secondhand registrations. Its not like if someone sees that a .com is unregistered they are going to choose a .co over the .com because .com is so much more well know and because of the price.  .Net also has its lower price going for it which makes it much more attractive to small business owners along with its general acceptance.

But I am no expert that's just my views and we will see what happens with .co the .co auction at sedo will show a lot about the after market value of the names.  I can't wait for the big game Go Steelers! and I will be watching for the godaddy ads! If you do want to register a .co domain after the big game seems to be a good time because all of the registries are going to have them on sale for $11.99 which does make them competitive with other extensions.

I think that the godaddy.co superbowl ad is already paying off before even being released. As usual godaddy is doing a great job of promoting its main superbowl ad with teasers, etc. The fact that this years ad that will be focusing on .co has already made news in venues like Fortune, LAtimes, etc.. means it is already a success.

$11.99 sale during the Superbowl week is a good idea but is probably geared more towards the domainers instead of those looking for a domain for their business, etc.. if they decide on .co the $12 or $30 won’t make a difference.

Anyway, have fun watching the game tomorrow… and I gotta go against ya I’m with the Packers this year!

Yes, it will do something, it will make the NFL $3 million richer.

Other than that, don’t expect much. Even with lipstick, implants, and heels –.CO will never be .COM

    Have a nice weekend!

I think that the co commercial did benefit godaddy since they got many more registrations. Its too early to tell if it had an impact on sellling CO domains. Sedo’s auction will be a great indication and I try to check sedos’ marketplace auctions to see if there are any co domains being sold and their prices. Right now there are 5 at auction. Lowest is $100 and highest is $500 so not too bad for a $30 investment.
Also name has CO domains on sale for 7.77 – which made me get about 6 more :)
