Is .Biz More Accepted by End Users Than Domainers?

Over the last few weeks from my own experience and also reading around I feel that .biz domain get an overly negative connotation from domainers. In the past two months out of my five dot biz domain I did own I have sold two. Mike on Sully's blog has been doing amazing interviews and many of the companies he interviews have been on .biz domain and they seem to be happy with their domain and feel that the extension fits them well.

My dot biz sales were for $150 and $250 but I picked both names up for the registration fee of $6. Compared to dotcom domain names there are some amazing .biz domain still available to register. Names that have been taken for years in the .com and would cost thousands to buy can be hand registered. In both cases all of the top extension were taken and  had an exact match and sold to someone who owned a similar domain that was not exact match one used a .com one used a .net.

When selling .biz domain I am not expecting them to sell for thousands of dollas but for me turning $6 into $250 is still a great return on investment.

I am now looking for more .biz domain to try to sell to end users. On the blogs and forums I feel like the .biz gets little respect, but I think it might be one of the easiest non .com domain extension to sell to end users. I am going pick up a few more over the week and I will do a follow up post in a few weeks. What has your experience been with the .biz?

I recall when trying to promote a brandable pet-related .Com domain noting a large number of dog breeders using .biz. I didn’t manage to sell that .COM but would agree .biz is more widely accepted amongst end users than .COM. However, I have never tried selling a .biz to an end user. If they already have a domain, why would they want to buy a .biz? And how much time does one spend between domain acquisition and marketing? I did sell one .biz to a developer earlier this year but will likely be down to a handful of .biz domains by year-end.

I wonder if the same might be true of .co domains. Once end users become aware of the extension, it might appear even more attractive for business use than .biz.

I hope you are right as I have recently purchased a fantastic occupation-name .biz domain which I plan to use either for business for a blog promoting the business. The .com and the .net are both taken, so I know the demand is there and the number of searh queries confirm that.

I’ve found it to be widely used by companies in Europe and Asia. While I don’t like the sound of “dot biz” and would never use it for any my projects, I think with the right keywords, it can suit a company just fine. I just picked up a 2-word product .biz last week that I plan on offering to some companies in China (it’s aluminum related, and there are a lot of manufacturers in China, and many of them use .biz on their existing sites).

wow congrats on the .biz flips! turning $6 into $250 is more than awesome! I have a few .biz names and have them parked while I try to sell them to end users. It is a hard thing to do, but I’m sure that with a good name comes a great sale price. Keep us informed on any other future .biz sales!

I have and have gotten close to 30 offers, but all privately. Even though the site is listed for sale on Sedo, it seems like no one wants to go public with the purchase. I dont even know how to go about doing a private domain sale. But people tell me all the time that the .biz in my domain makes more sense in this case than a .com. I hope .biz picks up and I can just develop the site on my own.
