Off to India and My Plans for a Report On the Indian Domain Market
Right now I am in the airport waiting for my flight to New Deli, India. For the next 5 weeks I will be studying at a school called Mayo College in Rajasthan India a few hours south of Deli. This is part of an exchange program at my school and I will be the first America to attend Mayo. It is a traditional English boarding school founded over 120 years ago. I am really excited to learn about the culture and see India, I am also going to be doing many little trips while I am in the country.

As part of my trip I plan on giving a first hand report on the Indian domain and internet ecosystem. What is used more .co.in or .in? Are many people and businesses online yet or is the boom still to come? Do they know about .us and other cctld’s? Is the .com still king in India? What are the most popular websites? Ect.. I know I will think of more questions and if you have any questions about the Indian domain market please post them and I will try and find the answer.
I am going to be doing video and written interviews with my classmates and other people, I think the students will give a great perspective because they are the future of India. India is a very young and smart country and the newest generation is connected to the internet just like America’s present youth so if they use the .co.in or .in that will make a big difference in the future use of these domains and their value to invertors.
I have not really decided how I am going to do this yet I am thinking in a long series of blog post or even a little free ebook. Again if you have any questions you would like answered about the Indian domain market I would be glad to try and find the answer as this will be a huge learning experience for me. I would love to hear all feedback.

Welcome to India a land of contrasts and diverse cultural traditions.I am sure you will have a great time here after the culture shock
Most of the leading companies have incorporated
.in into their internet presence strategy but compared to american/rest of the world indian
domain market is still in the nascent stage.
Would love to hear a new perspective on the domain market especially with regard to the regional languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Telegu
which are sure to grow with time.

Nice initiative Brian. Perhaps you could report on the use of international domains in India. There’s about 22 different languages spoken in India, a nice market for non-english domains.

Get ready for Dehli belly.
Head up on the bus to Manali when you need a break.
Shoot down to Goa, Palolem beach if you want to hang out with some int backpackers and get some beach time.
Was in india for 4 months, nice place. Lovely, people.
When shopping in India, what ever you think is a good price to pay. Divide it by 10 and start haggling from there.
Enjoy.

Hi,
First and foremost safe travels. Secondly, I strongly believe and feel that the .in domains are in infancy stage…meaning same as .com in 1994-1997 period. Today, they are an underdog but given india’s growth and the population .in will become the .com for India and indians, and indian markets.
Sincerely,
Salman

hello,
I read your blog and I am glad that you enjoyed your trip to India. However for a real experience you need to venture out more. You were in one of the elite schools where things are pretty much walled off and much more pampering going on. Also students are from very high Socioeconomic class.
Real India is in streets and villages. Explore traditional markets not malls, explore streets, explore places where locals go. It may feel dirty in the beginning but after a while a lot fascinating and lot more satisfying.
regards…

I did spend 2 weeks traveling around, and yes I know I was in a upper class school but I did get to see many different parts of India including markets and traditional villages sorry I did not mention that part in the post. But even still I would have like to travel more but as you know there is so much to see.
