My good friend Morgan Linton turned me on to a great site called oDesk, It's an amazing site that makes outsourcing quick and easy. I have been using it to have people help me with all kinds of task including end user emails, link building, coding help, article writing and more.

What makes oDesk different from other outsourcing sites like elance, freelance.com and rentacoder?

- The test system. oDesk has many different types of tests that applicants can take set up including wordpress, English, email etiquette, call etiquette, joomla, php, html, social media marketing, Search engine optimization and more. On each coders profile you can see what tests he or she has done, their score percentile,  and how long they took to complete them. This make it super easy to identify great coders.  Also on the profile you can view detailed ratings about each job the coder has finished and also how many hours they have worked on the site.

- The hiring process is treated much more like a real job interview. You can invite people to interview for your job posting. Coders show samples of prior work and also are able to submit an offer to work for a price.

- Working per hour or per job. When you make a job posting you specify if you want it to be a fixed price job or per hour. To keep track of your employees there is a team management tab where you can view their work logs.

-When people work by the hour they have to clock in and clock out. While they are clocked in they post progress updates and a screenshot is taken every 15 to make sure that you are getting what you paid for. I was always a little scared about hiring people by the hour but I have used the system and had great results.

Outsourcing work that I do not have time for has really paid of for me. There are many task that I am not good at and I am able to pay people a few dollars an hour who can do the work much better than I can.

I really like oDesk. It like having a team of people working with you every day when I need them. I have a few people working on doing SEO on my minsites to see if I can get them from their top 5 listings in google to be number 1. The increase in revenue would be well worth it. I did it with one name so I know it is possible but I just do not have time to do it with all of them. I will keep you updated on how it goes.

If you have any questions at all about oDesk I would love to answer them. And if you have some work you need done give it a try.

Thanks for the reminder. Given what Adsense has been paying the last several days, I’m not sure if I would want to spend too much money on link building if the only way to monetize the effort were Adsense revenue. Regardless, you point is valid – there are only so many hours in the day and oftentimes there are skilled individuals overseas who will work for a very modest wage.

Enjoyed reading the post and had a couple questions. You mentioned using them to outsource end user emails. Was wondering what part(s) you outsourced (e.g. compiling list of prospects, recording contact info, e-mailing, etc.) and how you found the experience.

Was also wondering if Odesk gives the ability to generate a custom skills test to find freelancers with a certain combination of skills and knowledge.

Thanks, I have used them mostly to compile lists of end users to contact. I have them find the email, website, and a name if they can. It saves lots of time and they have found a few contact I would not have thought of. You just have to take a little time to explain how to find end users.

I tried having them send emails but I like to customize them and I would not recommended it.

About the test I do not think they do. That would be great but I guess you could set up a test and have that be part of the interview process.

If you have any SEO guys you recommend, I’d love to have some references. I’m looking for one or two right now to build some site backlinks.

    Thanks for the post.

Interesting – Agents of Value is another service that you can use for mini site development and link building. They specialize in full time staff – but they are cheaper than odesk, and also provide monitoring software like odesk.
