Should You Concentrate on One Thing or Many?

I ponder this question quite often, Would I be better off becoming a master at one aspect of domaining or should I try and get to know a little about each and every little part.

I think that both sides have their pros and cons. On one side if you only concentrate on one part lest say it is parking domains, you are putting all of your eggs into one basket and if that part of the market crashes or is somehow sent under with a new legislation or something like that you are as they say up a creek without a paddle.

On the other hand if you are trying to lean everything you will never become an expert in one area. You will be spread to thin and always jumping around to new things.

I have decided that I am going to do a combination of both. (Big surprise right?)

I am going to sit down today and pick 5 or 6 general areas that I would like to concentrate my efforts in domaining in. There are just so many areas that I would like to learn about in the domaining industry, but for right now I want to become a little more focused. With school and everything else going I need to use my time wisely. This does not mean I will not do some fun side projects or venture out but I think this will help keep me on track. I will continue to blog as I enjoy it and I will be getting back to regular informative postings on here.

Do you feel like you are spead to thin or have all of your eggs in one basket?

Are their any new areas that you would like to learn about in domaining?

    Cant go wrong with Geo names :) but I’m biased. As in most businesses though its usually better to go with the things that make the most money. So a starting point is which subjects pay the most if you had google ads on the sites.

    Jack of all trades.

    Think of it as if you were recording a song. If you need a sax on that track, learn just enough to play that sax to make section work. Same with any other instrument that the songs requires. Think of what you want as the end result and make the tracks work even if you never play that sax again. Then move on to the next song. Repeat.

    We now live in a world of efficiency.

    @Michael

    Great example with recording a song. I am in a band and I totally understand what you are saying. Have the end goal in mind and work and learn to do everything you need to to get it done.

    But I would say that their are some things that can be outsourced to be more efficient and cost effective.

    Thanks for reading
