Success With Godaddy Premium Listings

Late last year I added 30 or so domains that I was not going to renew or names that I did not plan on developing to Godaddy's Premium Listing service. The process to add a name is very simple you just enter the name and your price. The major drawback is that godaddy takes a 30% cut so make sure you price accordingly.

Since adding the names I have sold 4 Domains using godaddy this year. I have sold 2 just this month.

I think that the listings have been so successful for 2 reasons.  First I have been pricing the names under $1000. These are names I was not even thinking of renewing so I am quite happy with anything I can get for them. I also think the main reason that the listings have had so much success is because Godaddy as we all know is the most well known domain registrar. When people go to look for domain they go to godaddy and search. They see the premium listings and unlike an email from a domain; they trust godaddy. Godaddy does a great job making it easy to buy the domain and they handle the transfer of ownership.

Last Friday I got my first check in the mail from godaddy so it took a little over 2 months to get in the mail. If you have not put some of your domains on godaddy you might want to give it a try. Its free so what do you have to loose?

Your point about listing names you have that you aren’t planning to develop, or don’t think have huge potential is key. There is no harm in listing them for under $1000, and it’s better than dropping them or selling them in forums for $20. Some names are like that, you know they could be worth $500 to $1000 to somebody, and Godaddy could get a lot of eyeballs to your listing.

They could improve the service by dropping the commission to a lower rate, and getting people their money faster.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I really don’t think I will always sell this many domain a month I just might have had a little luck but I like the credibility that godaddy brings to the table even with the 30% commission.

Thanks for reading and ask any questions you have I am happy to answer them.

Do they only pay by check? Can’t you ask for Paypal?

I’m based in India, a US$ check would take 45 days to clear, after the 60 day for them to make payment.

Not that it matters, a sale is a sale. I’ve had one small sale with them recently and was just wondering.

Last week I also added 15 domains to the GoDaddy’s Premium listing. It’s funny to see the “Recommended Price”. One .org is appraised at $215k and a .com $168k. Only two domains hit the range! :D

Does GoDaddy pay only by check for the domains?
