Already Generating Leads with My Mini Site

Last week I set up my site Rent a Cargo Van with a small lead generation forum for people looking to rent a van. To my surprise I have already had three leads sent my way in only a few days of being ranked in the search engines.

My original plan was to send a few of the leads to rental companies for a free a few times and then hopefully they will see the value of them and will be willing to pay a small fee for them. There are tons of rental companies around the country that would like the leads, but it is not going to be as easy as I thought.

First the site is a not geo targeted, which means that the site attracts renters from anywhere. Because of this it is going to take some time before I get a few leads from the same place and establish a relationship with that business. To try deal with this I am going to have pages that geo target specific cities and states so that I can easily target specific areas and establish relationships with rental locations.

I tried to contact a few local branches of a national rental companies, it was hard to directly get in contact with them via email because the emails all went to the national support center so I am going to try and do so by phone.  With the small number of leads I have now I do not think I will be able to do anything with the national companies yet, but if I got in contact with the manager at a local branch they might be willing to try a few leads especially for free.

I had one request for a rental in Canada and found a local company via google and sent them the lead. Before I had not even thought about international rentals. I also had a request for a one way van rental across the country which I could not find a local company to do and like I said earlier the national companies did not respond.

Overall, I am thrilled to already be generating leads from this small site I put together in a weekend. I think am going to add adsense in a few weeks and see how that does. I am also going to add more content to try and target cities. If possible I would also like to improve the lead capture forum because I am not thrilled with the way that it looks now. If you have any ideas, suggestions for me please share them because I am just learning how to do the whole lead generation gig.

My wife have me look up the price for transporting a car from Chicago to Los Angeles last week. Since I am immense in domain names and building websites, I registered and put a directory on MoveCar.Org. It is not a bad name right? It’s not as pretty as yours. But I got it done. :)

That’s awesome Brian, your site looks quite nice for a weekend’s work, just goes to show that with the right keyword research, it’s not too hard to get ranked in google.

    Hey Brian,

I have done some work on a few Lead Gen sites and it always seems easier than the reality. In the early days, it is easier to contact and work with smaller businesses as they are easier to get through to. This is great to get some initial buyers for your leads going and help you start to build the volumes of traffic/leads that will get you into the bigger providers.

The next tricky part is scalability as you have to distribute all the leads based on the buyers requirements. This is where technology is the key as it becomes very unmanageable very quickly with lots of leads. Using a form system like FormStack ( that has some options to direct emails based on the data inputted into the forms can help.

Alternatively, are there any existing Lead marketplaces that cover these leads which you can just plug right in to your site? That would be the most simple solution all round, but may take a bit of hit on your profit for each lead.

    Either way, best of luck.

To make this simple, I would suggest working with one single company that has offices in most states that can cover 90% of the client. You have create a win/win. So, how do you this? First, find out their cost per customer. If they spend $15 to get one customer and if they had 10K customer per year, that is $150,000/year that they spend. They can keep the same process, but you will sell them that it will cost them only $10 per customer through you. This is $100K more in revenue for them and they are saving $50K when acquiring these customers.

Great advice by Rafael. You’re site isn’t too bad but should be more polished if you start getting more traffic. You should also try to make more money off of selling leads than making money off Google Adsense, so you might not want to put that at the top of the page.

Thanks for sharing your experience with your new mini site. Have you tried to post ads on craigslist to get more traffic? You can also create reviews that links directly to your website or setup a squeeze page.
