Brian,

You are very right, a person will not be successful overnight. When I talk to friends of mine about getting into domaining the first thing I do is slow them down, patience and learning the ropes first will help them in the long run. Its not a quick buck game. Think about the Rick Schwartz of the world who bought names back in the mid nineties and are reaping the rewards now…
