End user sales are a big part of domaining, they are normally the most lucrative, but they also take the most work to pull off. With my domain sales I often try and be proactive and contact the end useres either by email or by phone to sell domains.

End users are often busy business men and women so many time even after getting the initial reply of interest in a domain they stop responding for whatever reason. When an end user does not respond to my email I normally give them a week or so depending on how the contact has gone up to that point. If they seem super eager to buy the domain and have been responding to emails within a day I will give them less time that someone who has responded after 5 or 6 days.

After giving them time to respond without response I will then send another email or call them asking if they are still interested in buying the domain. Often times the email was just mistakenly missed because of other work. If they still do not respond after this if the negotiations were a little ways down the line I might add that I am going to be listing and trying to sell the name to other businesses if I do not hear from you within x days.

Then if there is still no response maybe the business changed hands or something else happened I have no problem sending them another email after a few months have passed about the domain. One of my favorite tactics if the end user does not answer an email is to give them a call. This shows them you are serious and can help close the deal faster.
End user sales are a tricky art to master, and in no way have I even come close to getting it perfect. Every day brings a new scenario and a new learning adventure.

I have learned after many attempts that with some domains cold calls are the best way to try and sell the domain. Some people do not answer their whois email or might be more comfortable on the phone because there is an added trust factor of talking to a real person.

Currently, I am on spring break and finally have time to make end user calls during the day when I am normally in school during normal business hours. Yesterday I made 19 phone calls to places all over the country from California to Maine and even 2 calls outside of the United States.

I was trying out a few variations of my script, but call after call all I got was no after no. So many people told me they already have a domain and would not let me explain the benefits of owning the generic domain or the geo city domain for their profession. The prices were all reasonable but most people would not even let me get that far.

Two people I called did take down my name, phone number, and email and said they did not want the domain right now but they might some time in the future so they would contact me then.

I got quite frustrated after 18 calls and I posted on twitter my frustration and then decided to make one more call.

I called a law firm which means most of the time the secretary just listens and then hangs up. This time was different she handed the phone to the boss and we had a great conversation about owning the domain. His exact quote "I can see the value in owning that" That made my day all better, he said he was busy and to send him all of the details to his email and we will finish the transaction asap.

I wanted to post this story to encourage others to keep trying especially when it comes to selling to end users. I made 19 calls in total and only 1 turned out. That is a 5.2% chance of success, but all it took was that one call to make the day worth it. That is what I love about end user sales.

So keep trying to sell to end users and if you have any questions be sure to ask them.

I wanted to share a simple outline that I follow when contacting end users. It is by no means set in stone and will vary depending on the name and the end user you are contacting.

First Contact- Send an eMail early in the week I like to send them on Monday so they have the whole week to look at them. If they respond take it from there; if not move to step 2.

Second Contact- Wait 1-2 weeks after 1st contact try a simple contact via phone or email depending on the value of the sale to you simplely to ask if they got your email, have any questions or are interested in buying the domain.

Third Contact - Wait 2 weeks, If they have not answered any emails the email may not be checked so you might want to opt for a phone call or traditional snail mail option if you have not done so already.

If they do not respond after these 3 or 4 attempted contacts chances are they are not going to. Move on try the next potential end user and remember it takes a long time to sell some domains just keep working selling quality domains for fair prices.

The all new Estibot 2.0 can help you find users and might be valuable for someone who has not done it before.

Lately I have been looking at a few out of the box ways to find and contact end users. I have tried the normal emails, calls, and even good old fashion snail mail with stamps. But I was thinking about some new places to look for end users many that involve new social media and other new developments.

1. Twitter - Twitter I think can be a great place to find end user contacts and also contact end users via their twitter accounts. I have sold one domain via twitter and I think their is great possibility to use twitter to sell domains. When you have a keyword domain see if anyone has the twitter user name, or search and see if some company or business is talking about your keywords and send them a DM or email asking if they want to buy your domain.

2. Facebook - Facebook is a lot like twitter using your keywords from your domain see if anyone has the facebook url ex. facebook.com/yourdomain Also people might have a fan page for your keywords so always check and if you find someone take a second and send them a quick message.

3. Youtube.com - Youtube is becomeing one of the largest traffice sites in the world and the largest search engines for videos online. Take a look to see if anyone has registered your domain keywords to use as their youtube profile. Or if you want more results find people that are producing videos using your keywords.

4. Craigslist.com If you are selling local geo domains craigslist.com is a great place to find a local business that may want to buy your domain.

5. Google.com Well this one is not new for most people and it is where I find a majority of my end user contacts, but Google has many cool tools that you can use besides the normal search including Google maps, Google local search, Google people directory, Google reader and Google news and finance.

Do you have anyother places you look to find contacts to sell your domains too?

Soon I should be doing a longer wrap up of some recent enduser sales I have made and the different ways I have done them I will also review the results of my letters I sent out. Hopefully I can have that out in the next week or so.

In other news Chef Patrick interviewed Bruce Marler today on Domain Success Power Lunch and it is worth a listen it should be up on Domain Success soon.

I am back from Chicago now and need to get back into the blogging routine. It was a great band trip, had a lot of fun and our band kicked ass. We won almost every award and my jazz band won a nice Gold 1st Place trophy. I play alto saxophone in case anyone was wondering.

Back to the article, in the past few weeks I have been trying to send out more end-user letters which seemed like a hard task but, I make a plan of how many letters I want to send a week and make sure I get it done. Once you come up with a letter for a domain it only takes a few seconds to send it to the next person. When sending the same letter to different people use a Blind Carbon Copy or BCC so they do no know you sent it to more than one person. I made a folder with all of my letters to keep them all in one place.

When I send out the letters I first go look up the domain owner I want to send the letter to. Using whois data I send the letter to all of the contacts if the email is different for all of them. Then I go to the website and click on the contact us and send it to that email. If I can find the CEO or owners email I will send it there too. Who else do you send it too? With my letters I have gotten emails back from the website tech guy who says he is not in the position to buy the domain and I have not heard back from many of the CEO's. The best seem to be smaller business Owners who respond, but often they do not realize the value of a domain yet.

I like to keep my first letter short and sweet while still providing information. First I introduce myself and the domain. Then I explain how a domain can add value to their business and how the specific domain can help them earn more or build their brand. I alos mention the SEO value. If the domain has traffic I will mention it and if it is indexed in google. If it is a generic domain I will mention the google searches per month for the term. I end with would you be interested in learning more about this domain? And then a "Thanks for your Time " my name and email signature.

I don't mention price I learned my lesson on that. I always give my email and phone number just in case they want to call me, no one has yet.

If they respond I will include a longer letter with more information about the domain and then ask for a price or ask them to name a price and then I work from there.

Have you tried calling business and inquiring if they want to buy your domain?

What's your letter look like?

Later I want to combine all of the comments and make the Master Letter Template for endusers
