This week Monday through Friday I will be doing one post a day that goes through the complete process I take to build a minisite. I have had many readers email or comment that they would like to see the whole process from start to finish. I know some of my readers are going to be doing the process with me and its going to be very easy and rewarding I hope. Personally I picked out 7 domains that I am going to be building minisites for this week. All you will need to follow with me and build your own minisite is a domain, hosting, wordpress and a few spare minuets each day this week.

Day 1 - Will focus on domain selection, Hosting, Installing WordPress, and Researching the market

Day 2- Will be about the header / logo, wordpress templates, and plugins

Day 3- The most important day will focus on content and writing it or hiring it out

Day 4- Monetization - Many different methods, affiliate programs, Adsense, Ebay Partner Network, Direct Ad Sales

Day 5 -The last day will wrap things up with information about SEO, link building, and finally selling your domain sales

So if you follow along you can have a few minisites after 5 Days that will be producing monthly income with little effort every month. I hope you enjoy and I would love any feedback.

When you invest time and money into developing a website you want it to pay off in the end. The key to web development is to make sure you can make money off the time and effort you invest into the site. I will be going over 5 steps that I take before starting any development be it a minisite or larger project.

1. Make sure there are people to visit your site.

This may seem like a stupid point, but there is no point in building a great site if no one wants to come to it. First start off by searching your keywords in the Google Keyword tool. I like there to be over 2,000 exact searches a month. I would also Google your keywords and take a look at your competition. Do they have a good alexa, pr, do they have advertisers. Some people think that having a competitor is bad, but initially competition tells you that there is a market for your site.

2. Can you build the site to compete with others?

If you are trying to build a video sharing site and compete with Youtube, Vimeo and others it is not going to be possibly to gain any market share unless you have deep pockets and a team behind you. You need to make sure you can get ranked high in the search engines so you can draw traffic and advertisers in order to be profitable. Take a look at SEO, and Content of other sites. You don't want to build a site and stop halfway because you are in over your head.

3. Do you have the time and resources to commit to the project?

Before starting you need to make sure you have time and money set aside for the project. If it is just a minisite you need to make sure you have time set aside to update the content weekly. For a larger site set a deadline when you want to have it done by.

4. What is the purpose of your site and How will you make money off it?

Is your website product, content, or affiliate based. Do you want to sell people a product? (Take a look at ebay and amazon affiliate programs) or Do you want to teach or show people something? Adsense may be better for you. There are many different ways to earn money on websites just make sure your site will use one or a combination of some that fit with your website.

5. Do you want to build the site?

For me this is the most important, I have to enjoy all of my sites, if I don't I will not make time to update them and then they will not be profitable for me. I am not saying you need to be an expert but, Do something that you enjoy and it will turn out better in the end.

Last weekend I was reading through entrepreneur magazine and I saw an advertisement about vending machine. Since I was on an airplane I began to think about all of the vending machines you see and how much people pay for food. At school it is $2.00 for a coke. I began to think of the profit margin and how I can get in on this.

When I got back to my computer I instantly went to google and began to read everything from some really bad designed websites, but that's a whole new post. The articles were good and I spent the day reading and learning.

My summary gumball machines can make money if in the right place and kept up. The gum only cost .02 per gumball. I also have plans to vend Dentine Ice and other adult friendly food.

Friday I was on craigslist and I found a guy in my city selling 25 gumball machines. I went over to take a look the machines look nice and he really wanted them gone. He had said he wanted around $400 for all of them but he had to free up the space so I offered $100 and he said ok and even drove them in his truck to my house. They took up my whole trunk of my car too.

I have now taken apart all of the machines and rebuilt them. I got them for $4 each and they are worth over $45 on eBay. I am going to put them out around the city and see if I can make a little extra money to pay for gas. It should be a great project. If you want more details email me it is a good business part time hopefully.

Now how is this related to Minisites. Minisites require lots of upfront investment of time and a little resources. A gumball machine requires the purchase and the placement but after you do that you only service t every 4 weeks. Mini sites too need to be updated every once and a while if you want to stay high in the Search Engines. The better a mini site works the more it will make just like a candy machine. The better the candy the more repeat buyers you get; if your visitors life your site they will come back.

Minisites bring in small revenue like gumball machines but when you add lots of them up your cash adds up quickly.

The point is to always be on the lookout for a deal domains, cars, and even gumball machines. Don't be afraid to submit an offer you never know what situation the other person is in.

Also if you have not done so pick out a domain to make a mini site on soon I will be doing a series of articles where we make a minisite in 7 days in 15 min or less each day.

I will be trying to post more I have been on 3 trips in the past 2 weeks and I have lots of work to do but I will find some time.

Thanks for reading
