New Experiment Selling Physical Products via Social Media

I have just ordered a small quantity of unique products that I am going to use as test and try to sell them using social media websites mainly Twitter, Facebook ,and Google Buzz.

From my eBay selling experience I have some connections with dropshippers and wholesalers in China so I am able to get my products at a great price. The product I am going to be selling is the type of product that is cool to own and once and a while you might realize you need or want to own one and people seem to be tweeting a lot about them.

My idea is to have an main website and also a very active facebook and twitter account. When people talk about the product on twitter I will write a response back to them saying we have them to buy for a price that as far as I know is one of the best on the web.

On facebook I am going to offer discounts and giveaways to my fans and hopefully they will help spread the word. I also want to try facebook advertising because of its amazing ability to target users. You can pick gender, age group and even interest. I think that this is the future in online advertising and I want to see just how well it works.

As for domains I am going to have a main memorable website and also smaller sites that I can rank for their exact keywords to drive traffic and links to my main website.

My order should be here in the next few days and I have everything in place so I will keep everyone updated on how it goes after I am done.

I am going to do all of the shipping myself for now as I already ship many products a week for my current eBay business so I have the process down to a science.

Do you have any suggestions or think this idea is horrible?

Using Twitter to Grow A Minisite’s Traffic in 5 Steps

A few months ago I created a minisite for a client and we decided on top of the SEO work, we were also going to try and use Twitter to grow the sites traffic and users. The minisite was a simple wordpress site with around 20 articles of good targeted content so I knew that once people found the site they would find it valuable. The site was not overloaded with ad or pop ups, jut a nice simple easy to navigate site.

Use Twitter to Drive Traffic to Your Minisite

1. Register the Name of the Site for a Twitter Account, if it is not available you can add com or something

2. Before you Tweet any of your own sites use the twitter search function and find users tweeting about the same things you will be and ReTweet their stuff, start conversations with people tweeting about your topic.

3. After building up followers, slowly begin to Tweet your links and if you have built your account right people will ReTweet and read your post

4. Continue to help others and engage in conversations and ReTweet others post, you need to help others if you want them to help you.

5. Remember to not Tweet the same links all of the time, mix it up write some new content.

The Results of this case study were very positive, I was able to build a twitter account for my client that had a few thousand followers all about his topic and the best thing is that they ReTweeted his links and engaged in conversations with the account. The hundreds of clicks per link that were sent to the wordpressblog resulted in many new comments and repeat visitors. Twitter visitors commented much more than visitors from Google we noticed. We also saw the sites adsense earnings go up quite nicely.

Overall I think twitter is a great place to help drive traffic to your sites, but you have to do it the right way for it to be valuable. I really like it for Geo, and product related domains.

Godaddy Now Offers Twitter Username Check and Registration

I was just over at Godaddy looking at a few names that I have there and I saw something that caught my eye. Godaddy now offers an instant twitter username checker and if your username is available you can set up a twitter account and start tweeting in seconds.

This is the first time I have seen this and I do not know how long it has been their for. I think it is a good idea for people to be able to easily grab their Twitter name to protect their brand, but we do not need any twitter squatters thinking their names are going to be worth millions. The Twitter username Drew was a major exception because it was sanctioned by twitter. Comedian Drew Carey bid $100,000 for the name.

What do you think about Godaddy allowing its customers to easily register twitter usernames for all of their domain names?

Saving Time & Getting More Done On Twitter with Seesmic

A few weeks ago I began using Seesmic Destop to do all of my tweeting. Before that, I was starting to use twitter less and less because I could not read my timeline; it was filled with pointless tweets that I did not care about. Butsince I began using seesmic, I have been able to enjoy using twitter again.

Seesmic Desktop Interface Review

Seesmic has a great interface that is easy to use and control. It has a super easy retweet button that saves me lots of time and effort. I can also easily reply and send direct messages to people. There is also a web version that you might want to take a look at.

All of this is great, but my favorite option is the user list function that allows you to add people to a group and then you can only see tweets from that group if you want. You can make as many groups as you want. I have created a few groups one called "domainer" and using that I am able to chat and keep up with all that is going on in only the domining world, I do not need to weed through other spammy post.

If you are not satisfied with twitter I sugest you give seesmic a try, they also have an iPhone app you you apple fans

Twitter is Catching On and is Here to Stay Proof Inside

Today I was sitting in the school library where we have a section with some computers and a printer when I overhear this boy, I shall call him Billy for now talking about Twitter. Now you may say twitter is popular and that's not really a big deal, but the thing is that "Billy" is not the tech master like me. Billy is an freshman athlete who has seemingly basic computer knowledge.

He was talking to this "in" girl in his grade about twitter and trying to explain what it is. He was sort of right, he described it as facebook with only status updates. He was following espn and a few other sports teams. The girl then goes on to say it seems like everyone has a twitter now! She then logged on to the school system and signed her self up a twitter account. And both of them proceed to follow and reply to each other.

The point is that these 2 people joining twitter are not a big deal, but it is the fact that the younger and older generations are flocking to twitter and enjoying it. These 2 people are the last 2 people in the world who I though would ever join twitter.

I am starting to build accounts for all of my new websites because of the ultra targeted traffic it can drive and also thee increased user interaction. I strongly advise you if you are not on twitter to jump on quickly before you get left behind.

Are you Wasting your time on Twitter?

Twitter is a great resource and I think that everyone if they want should have a twitter account and tweet once and a while. It has helped me get traffic to my site and meet many people in the industry In case you are not following my Twitter is @TeenDomainer .

Twitter is becoming the new domaining forum like I mentioned in my earlier post Doming Forums and Twitter May Cause Loss of Profit twitter and sites like Namepros may be great but if you are on them all the time you have no time to do anything else. I see the same people all the time on twitter giving us random updates about how everything in their life is going when they really should be working.

It is becoming hard to log onto Twitter and simply log off in 5 min. I have very little time in my day between school, track, and domaining. I found this great online tool that allows you set a timer and it will beep when you set it to. http://timberfrog.com/countdown/

I would suggest give yourself 10 min on twitter and then force yourself to get off. Set a time in your head or use a real timer and once this time is up make sure you log off. This will allow you to move onto other more important projects that can earn you money rather than just sitting around "tweeting"

Twitter, Facebook, and Domain Forums, all great things when used in moderation. It is like food, when you have too much it is not good for you. From what I have seen there are some people who spend all day on Social Networks or Forums and they end up accomplishing nothing at the end of the day.

The first day I set up my twitter account I think I spent my whole day “tweeting” and reading others tweets. I gained almost nothing from this. Twitter is all you hear about these days it seems to be everywhere. I use twitter and I like it I think that it is great for building a network but it can end up becoming a huge waste of time. The same is true with the domain name forms. I see people who are on the sites all day and night talking about buying and selling domain names, that’s great but you have to do something besides talk. Chatting about domaining earns you no money unless you own a domain forum.

To make sure I do not spend too much time on Social Networks I decided to only use twitter. Twitter seems like the most popular so I left facebook, linked in and others behind. I go on twitter once and a while and I will post a link to a new blog post or ReTweet something that looks interesting. I need to remember to not spam my followers with random updates like “I woke up” in my opinion tweets like this are pointless. To make sure I do not spend too much time on the forms I decided to only use one, I chose NamePros because I have been there the longest. I think that forms are a great place to learn what others are doing and to share your insight. I read a couple post every day but I try not to get caught up and end up being on Namepros all day.

Overall just make sure you are spending your time wisely.
