A little while ago I wrote a post about owning YourName.com. Before that post I bought my name BrianDiener.com. I have left it just sitting there on my hosting account. I have an email account set up, but that is it. I really want to do something with the site for a few different reasons. Is there anything that you think I should do with MyName.com?

1. I would like to rank number 1 for my name in google for various reasons.

2. I would like to have a site where I can blog about different topics than domaining and Internet related topics

3. I would like to be able to use the site for other business that I have that are not domaining related.

What do you think I should do with this site? I really like using wordpress but I would try something new. I am also looking for a design that is clean, simple but looks good.

Do you own yourname.com? Some people cringe at the extra registration fee every year, but not owning youname.com could end up costing you much more than the $10.00 a year.

Not only is yourname.com a great place to showcase a portfolio of your work and websites, it is unique to you. It is perfect to have a small personal blog with a about me page. This could be very important when you are looked at to be hired for a job. You could put a great resume on the site. It does not matter what profession you are in, you will always be identified by your name.

When people go to look at someone today they go to Google. They type in your name and click on the first result that comes up. You want the first result to be owned by you so that you can control what it says. No one wants the first result on Google when searching for their name to be about another person of the same name. It would be even worse if a complaint about the person came up first. This could end up costing you a job one day if it was bad enough.

You should register your name today because what if someone else is reading this with the same name as you and they register it? You do not want to have to buy your name from someone because it will end up being much more expensive.

In conclusion go to your favorite domain registrar and buy yourname.com and set it to auto renew. If you want put up a small site with an about yourself page and some links to your sites.
