This is truly a crazy story! I can’t believe it. Then I read Undergraduate’s comment and perhaps they are trying to save face after their mistake letting the .com drop by mistake.

I feel like you need the .Com because .Net is secondary. Peoples first instinct is to type blahblahblah.com instead of Blahblahblah.net

Yea, I am going to wait and see if they contact me again if not I will email them again in a few weeks and ask them if they still do not want it. If they don’t I will sell it to their competition.

They may be trying to save face, and not look like a fool.

Don’t make/let them feel like one. Be patient. Get the traffic stats, and show them how much money they’re losing. Tell them that if they’re not interested you’ll go to a competitor. Covertly find out which competitor they hate the most. Then leave.

Some sites, like dating oder gambling can profit from using the .net; but I agree with your opinion, that they never should have let the .com drop, it´s stupid in every sense of business.

The funny part is that they said that because they are prideful, I’ve come in contact with alot of business owners who would never spend any money in a domain or website. They are full of pride and are believers of “I can do everything myself” which is inevitably led them to where they are today.

What I try to do is change my speech and listening, you can tell their attitude towards something they don’t know the first time you speak with them.

If they say something like “we chose to let this domain expire because we like the .net better”, it tells you exactly that they would never accept defeat or weakness.

The only thing left to do is show them the numbers, behind closed doors. Become a competitor and show that person how much business they are losing to you.

Daniel,

Brian said the company previously did own the .COM also and let it expire.

I think his point was this company owned the prime real estate but were totally oblivious.

As Brian said:
“…it is just another example of an end user not getting domain names and their value.”

They should have brought the .com just to secure there brand, I have no idea why you would just like the .Net more. Did you at least explain the benefit of the .com?
